CHANDIGARH: Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon is an international  sportsman who has many firsts into his credit. The first baptised Sikh who is an international judge in the shooting. Presently he is Director Sports and head of the department Nagaland University at Kohima.

As a Sikh raised in the United States, Mandeep S. Dhillon has been involved in a broad range of activities both inside and outside the Sikh community.  His current project, The Sikh Next Door, is the first integrated multimedia curriculum program that has been designed specifically for American schools. 

 Bob Dhillon has made mega bucks in real estate business. AT 21, he was probably Canada’s youngest Indian-Canadian millionaire. At 41, he is close to becoming Canada’s first Sikh billionaire.

ISLAMABAD: One person stood out among the latest batch of smartly turned out cadets that graduated from the Pakistan Military Academy - the country's first Sikh army officer Harcharan Singh.

At the close of the First Sikh War in 1846 it was decided to conciliate the men of the defeated Khalsa Army and to enlist Sikhs in the Honourable East India Company's service. In April orders were issued to raise a Sikh irregular battalion, the Regiment of Ferozepore, for service with the Bengal Army of the East India Company.  

The First Sikh War started in 1845 and ended in 1846. Another followed between 1848 and 1849.The origins may be found in 1839 when the Sikh leader Ranjit Singh died. He'd tried to form a kingdom, or a state, for the Sikhs from the Punjab where his people came from. He took over Kashmir (the capital), Peshawar and Multan. His death ignited jealousies, power struggles and palace coups.
